El Alma De La Sed Title Sequence
The film, directed by Colleen Ryan, is set in Panama during an impending water crisis. It follows Luis, a young boy, who learns the story of an ancient spirit, in the form of a bird, who could bring food and water to the community. The end credit sequence I created is completely inspired by Mola. These intricate traditional patterns are hand-made in Panama by the Guna people, and are often stitched into clothes using an appliqué technique.
My version, although completely digital, attempts to recreate the texture and feel of the traditional Mola, paying homage to it’s complexity and deep meaning while adapting it for the screen. The custom font is based on some of the incredible Mola pieces you can find at the Panama Mola Museum.
